plane ride

Last week, Jackson took his first plane ride with Grandpa!

We had been talking about it a few days before that we would go out and see Grandpa's airplane. But I wasn't really sure what was going to happen. My guess is that Jackson would be just fine with taxiing around and not want to go flying. I was wrong.

He was a little scared in the beginning, so he sat on my lap while we taxied around.

On our way back, he said he wanted to go up flying in the air. I told him that I would have to get out and he would have to go by himself with Grandpa. Then once we got back to the hangar, this is when he told me to get out and that he wanted to go flying.

Getting his seat belt all on and ready.

They just did a loop around the airport and came back down.

He got back and said he wanted to do it again. Grandpa said he did great and had smiles most of the time.

I need to catch up on some pictures and happenings. We got Jacksona a new bike a few weeks ago (maybe a month ago now?). He does great! He can't start on his own yet, he did once though. He's just not tall enough to get it going... soon enough I'm sure. But once he gets going, he does great.

A couple weeks ago now, we went cherry picking! It was lots of fun. We also picked blueberries too. We canned the cherries and froze the blueberries. The blueberries were the best ever too!

Wyatt came over today with his pedal bike and Jackson wanted to try it. He has tried it a couple weeks ago and kept reverse pedaling, which was causing him to suddenly stop every couple feet.

And today, he did soo much better! I'm so proud!

I took these a few days ago, just took awhile to get them posted.

Here is my garden this year. I have carrots, lettuce, zuchini, cucumbers, marigolds and snow peas in there.

These are on the back side of the little fence, I'm not sure what kind of flowers these are exactly. I believe some sort of daisy. They keep spreading a little every year, this is the best they've looked so far. I don't think the picture does them justice (maybe I should have messed with the color/vibrance in photoshop to help, oh well).

And here are more snow peas that I put next to the chicken coop to give them some shade. This is the first year I've ever grown snow peas. It's been great having them, I'll definitely do them again next year.

Free pony rides are the best! Jackson did great on the pony ride, however we went back later and he didn't want to do it again. Once was enough.

We went to the fair! I showed Jackson pictures of us at the fair last year and it made him get excited. So then when we got in the parking lot, he started yelling "we're at the fair!" and he said he was excited. It was cute.

We met up with some friends and did some rides on Pepsi day. They chose the airplanes first.

Jackson made it about 3 times around and then started to cry. So the guy stopped the ride and let Jackson off early. He said he got scared.

We went to the pool the other day with some friends. Had lots of fun.

Here is a wide view of the pool's outdoor kids area. We love it, but it's about a 30 min drive away.

There is a small slide just for around Jackson's age. He can do it all by himself. The landing is in super shallow water. He wants to do the big slide by himself, but he's not tall enough yet (probably 2 more years).

After church today, I turned a sprinkler on and we played in the front yard. It was a really nice day. The neighbor boys came over and played with Jackson & the spinkler. They showed Jackson how to run through it. It was fun to watch.

Jackson found one of Dan's atomic fireballs (if you haven't had one before, they are super hot). We let him have it and I told him to lick it. He did and he liked it. He kept licking it and then eventually he put it in his mouth, but he wouldn't keep it in long. He said it was hot.

Amy and I took the boys to two workshops recently. One at Lowes and they made a waving flag thing.

And one at Home Depot and they made a little tool box for Father's day. It was fun, both stores gave them aprons since it was their first time at both. We will have to do it again sometime soon (I think they do it once a month).

Here is the annual picture of the backside of our backyard. I've kept up with the weeds this year! The rose bush at the end is about to bloom. I finally got some video of Jackson riding his bike. He is doing soo good on it too. Even from yesterday to today has been a big improvement!

He loves going off on this dirt path into the field.

After he crashed, he saw an ant and tried to pick it up, didn't even care that he crashed.

He is going so much faster today than yesterday, it's amazing.

We got Jackson the bike. I did some research and decided to get it. And so far, I think we did good. Jackson rode it around the sidewalk tonight and it was his idea to go off onto the dirt trail. He rode a lot and wanted to go more, but it was getting late so we had to come inside (that's why the pictures are a little blurry).

He had to stop to pick up some BB's along the way. The neighbor kids have shot them everywhere and Jackson likes to play with them. He rocks them in his arms and sings "bb baby".

I signed up for the first annual Happy Girls Half marathon a few weeks ago. I haven't done my best at training, but oh well. I have a hard time keeping motivation when weather is so yucky outside. Now that it's a little warmer and nicer, it's been easier, but the race is sneaking up on me fast. I just hope they don't close down the finish line before I get there.

The race is May 29th and here is a really cool video of the course. I wanted to share just because of how much I like it. Happy Girls Half course video by Jim Sanco. ...and make sure you have sound turned on, that's my fav part I think.

We went to the bike store to test out a bike for Jackson. He liked it a lot. He said he wanted to take it home. There are no pedals, chain, etc on this bike. It's meant for 2-5 year olds and is to teach them how to balance. There are several on the market, but this one is called a Haro Z10. The only thing is they are kind of expensive. .... so we'll see if we get one or not. They only had a pink one put together in the store, if we did get one it probably won't be pink.

I always love the first use of the clothes line of the season. It means summer is on it's way. I don't set up the clothes line until we actually start getting nice weather. Since I don't have diapers to wash anymore, it's going to be hard to use it 100% in the summer. When I did have diapers to wash, hanging them on the clothes line was the best. The stains would come right out and since I had to wash them every other day I felt good about drying them outside instead of using so much electricity with the dryer (especially since they took forever to dry). In an odd way, I miss having diapers to wash and line dry. Here is an old post that I talked about using the line the whole summer with pictures.

Look what I made! Dan helped me... a lot. It's for our little chickies (more like teenager chickies now). We are going to move them outside and put them in with the adult hens and this will be a place they can hide if the big chickens are picking on them.

Here they are. I had to corner them to get a picture. They wouldn't listen when I told them to sit and stay in front of their new house.

Jackson's birthday party theme was circles. I had fun searching the internet for ideas. Everything was pretty easy too. The circle garland was fun too. I also borrowed two twister games from friends that the kids could play too.

Jackson turned 2. I think it's so much fun having a two year old. He is great. He was a great baby, but this is fun on a different level. Here he is opening two trains for his train table. His expressions were great.

We had a fun party for him too, I'll add a couple pictures later when I get another moment.

P.S. I don't know what I'm going to do about the "baby" label for posts about Jackson. I don't think I can change label names and he's so not a baby anymore.

Jackson loves coins, aka "money." It all started when a restaurant hostess gave him some pennies to throw in the fountain. Then we were at a store and I gave him a penny to put in a charity jar. Now he's asking for money all the time. He does good with them, never puts them in his mouth, however does like to put them in places... including the side vent in our tv. So... I made him this piggy bank. He likes it a lot, he played with it a bunch yesterday.

Jackson's pants always fall down. The pants that do fit his waist make him look like he's waiting for a huge flood, so those don't work. I saw an idea to make a belt with snaps and I still have a ton of snaps (from making diapers). On Etsy, they have these belts with super cute elastic, but I don't have any cute elastic, so white will do. It works pretty good too!

Dan's mom wanted some more chickens, so we got two chicks that we'll keep at our house until they get a little bigger and then give them to her, this way Jackson can watch and play with them. He is a little timid towards them because they pecked at his finger in the beginning. But the other day he picked one up to put on the scale. They weigh 1 5/8 ounces each. They are growing fast though, they are already getting their feathers.

I made oatmeal raisin cookies the other day. Have I posted I love my Silpat sheet? It's great! Food doesn't stick at all and it's easy to clean. Just hope that later they don't find out it's poisonous or something.

A sewing caddy

I saw this sewing caddy and thought it would be perfect for my sewing machine! It went pretty quick, the worst part was ironing on the interfacing. I also made the detachable pin cushion (after I took this picture). I used some old fabric I've had for a few years, I don't think it's super cute, but it's very functional. Now I need to do some more sewing to use it!

A couple days ago I made Jackson bear cutouts of cheese and turkey meat with crackers. I asked him if he wanted bears again and he said "Yes!" and then waited a second and said "lions!" He even went and got the lion cookie cutter for me.

So, I think my son is a genius. Look at him, not even two yet and trying to write his name. ...hehe ... I'm exagerating a little, but I am really just amazed.

We've been working on colors lately. Here he is saying "blue."

Then I asked him where yellow was.

I made this roll for my mother-in-law, Marti.

It ended up being long, 45 spaces for pencils and then two bigger pockets for an eraser or whatever.

I also made another one for myself. It's for my sewing things. I planned it all out, choosing what I use the most. I don't have a sewing prep area, so I have to bring out my stuff and cutting mat to the living room. So it's really nice and quick to grab it and my mat.

I added snaps to the sides to keep everything in when I roll it up.

Jackson likes to pretend to sleep. I think it's pretty cute, especially since this was his idea.

I decided to make one for myself! My Grandma gave me a bunch of knitting needles (thank you Grandma!) and it's hard to find the match and size I want, so I made a knitting roll! I looked at several tutorials online and sort of just did it how I wanted (so no link, because I didn't really use one). I think it turned out great. And again, I used supplies on hand. And as much as I wanted to buy new fabric, I need to use the fabric I have first (makes it a little easier when I really like this fabric too).

Helper & Crayon Roll

Jackson is such a great helper. He loves helping with whatever we are doing. He's getting good at helping put away clean dishes and helping put clothes into the washer or dryer. He'll say "Jackson helper?" when he wants to help.

When I went to take pictures of this new crayon roll, he wanted to help too. I told him to lay down and he did and he added a "cheese" for the picture.

Jackson got a 16 crayon roll from Aunt Courtney for Christmas, it's super cute. I decided to make an 8 crayon roll for my purse for whenever. I found this tutorial online for the crayon roll at The Pleated Poppy. I started and finished it this morning, it went quick. It was very easy too and I love it when I have all the supplies already needed for a project.

We went down to the pier and threw two crab pots in. Went and ate lunch and came back a couple hours later and pulled them back up... no crabs. It was still fun though.

Jackson is getting good at pulling up his pants, even while running.

There was a starfish in a crab pot, so Jackson got to throw it back in the water. He talked about that the rest of the day and still occasionally brings it up. He thought it was very neat.

Happy Valentines Day! Jackson woke up to some red balloons, little toy gumball machine, chocolate kisses and some red finger paint to play with (which we did tonight). He popped two balloons this evening by sitting on them, he thought that was pretty funny. We made heart shaped sugar cookies yesterday and had heart shaped pancakes also. Fun stuff.

We got a great deal on a train table and pieces after Christmas. Jackson loves it, he plays with it every day. Here it is ALL set up when we first got it. Now we usually just play with a few pieces up on the table and have everything else underneath (having everything up is a little overwhelming).

Oh dear it's been a long time since I posted!

I keep wanting to post, but just don't get the time. I have a ton of pictures and stories I want to share too. ...just haven't sat down to do it.

I've been going running when Jackson takes his nap and Jackson has been going to bed later. Those were usually the times I would blog. Plus I guess I just haven't been in the mood to blog since I haven't really made the time either.

So, tomorrow I will plan on putting the pictures from my camera onto the computer and then choose at least one picture to post. That's my goal.

Just to add... I've been training for a 5k (3.1 miles) in March and a half marathon (13.1 miles) in May. I look forward to running each day and I've really made it a priority again.

I've been wanting a pastry blender for awhile now, I just never bought one myself. And I finally got one! I was so excited to use it, I made some pineapple muffins yesterday. These are one of my favorite muffins, I love the crushed pineapple and topping.

We went and visited Santa the other day. Jackson has now seen him twice and knows he give candy canes. He still didn't want to sit on his lap, but he wanted the candy cane.

Whenever we see anything that looks like Santa, he says "Panta" and "nini" for candy. He also has started saying "ho ho ho". Jackson also likes the Christmas lights and Christmas trees.

The other night we made cookies. Jackson can say cookie, but he still signs it at the same time too. He signs it over his mouth, like in this picture.

He loves to watch me mix stuff in the kitchen and now he's starting to want to help more and more. I gave him a bowl and put some water and flour in it. Then added cinnamon and vanilla also as I added them to the cookies. He did a good job of mixing, except he wanted to add his mix to my mix.

It's been a long couple weeks. I'm hoping this week we will be getting back to a regular routine.

Jeff's funeral was beautiful. So many family and friends came together for it, it was amazing. The support we have received and Dan & Jeff's parents have received is soo overwhelming to me, it's more support than I could have ever imagined. It puts tears in my eyes just thinking about it.

Jackson did great through all of this too. He has been more needy/clingy than normal, but it's understandable since I left him with family and a close friend a few times, which is way more than usual.

I got him a new bath toy the other day when my Mom was in town and we went shopping.

Jackson likes it a lot. I have a couple other cute pictures that I'll try to add later.

I cut eight of these from black cardstock today and taped them on the window. I traced them from a bat I found online somewhere, had to make it a little bigger. Then at night, with the inside lights on, you'll see a bat sillhouette. Right now these are our only Halloween decorations, besides some pumpkins inside. I still want to tie some corn stalks (that we grew in the backyard) to the front post and that will be it for the decorations. Good enough for me.

It's hard to believe that Jeff was just over here helping us paint our house 12 days ago and now he's in the hospital in critical condition.

I feel like we are in a movie and I want to fast forward, but can't.

...I really hope this part of the movie has a happy ending.

Jeff, my husband's brother, somehow got a brain infection, which has caused swelling and seizure complications. He also has pneumonia and is not breathing well. The doctors are concerned and we are also very concerned for him.

Yesterday we did our annual pumpkin patch trip. Lots of fun again. Here is last year's picture.

Got an idea from Jen Thompson to make spots for things on your computer background. Here is my attempt.

I like it. It organizes the folders just enough, so they aren't all in one line along the edge. Then I'll just change the center picture whenever I feel like it.

We've been busy getting prepping and painting the outside trim of our house. The siding is still fine, but the wood trim was peeling badly. Jackson had fun helping too. Here he is helping Daddy.
